Aliyeh Ataei

Aliyeh Ataei is an award-winning Iranian author and women’s rights activist with Afghan roots. Her novels, short stories, and essays are deeply shaped by her personal experiences as a borderland resident and address themes such as war, identity, and life as an emigrant. With the collection of autofictional stories "Im Land der Vergessenen" (Luchterhand 2025, translated from Persian by Nuschin Maryam Mameghanian-Prenzlow), one of her books has now been published in German translation for the first time. Without any pathos, Ataei uses an empathetic yet razor-sharp language in nine stories spanning more than 30 years to delve into her own history and that of her family.
